Did you ever wonder what happened to the famous black 1968 Mercury Parklane Brougham that Steve McGarrett drove in 130 episodes of Hawaii Five-O? The original 1968 Mercury was damaged in Season 10 and has been restored by its new owner (Click link below).

The 1974 Mercury Marquis Brougham is owned by John Boley Nordlum, Jack Lord's stunt double. It is in original condition (showing its age) and he still drives it. The wheels with the shinny hubcaps have been replaced with mag wheels. The car has been used in the new Hawaii Five-0. After filming, the car was returned to Nordlum missing the hood ornament and antenna. Here are two links:

New Hawaii Five-0 (Five Zero)
The new series is a modern cop show with lot's of in-your-face violence, blood, action with emphasis on hostage situations, terrorists and other sensational situations. Tough-guy Lt. Commander Steven J. McGarrett, former Navy SEAL, leads the action team racing around in their souped up Camaro. The show slightly resembles the old one and cannot be considered a redux or reboot of the old series. There is lots of camera shaking and bouncing (newsreel effect) during action scenes. It should be titled "SWAT TEAM, HAWAII". After watching the show for awhile, you wonder if you want to visit Honolulu or the state of HAWAII.
Old Hawaii Five-O (Five-Oh)
The original series was filmed in Hawaii during the 60's & 70's when TV censors controlled the violence, which is ok with me. No blood splatters or gory crime scenes. There was very little time spent on autopsies (thank heavens). McGarrett & Williams look and act like detectives and wear suits (no kidding!). The air conditioner must have worked quite well in the black Mercury sedan that they drove around in, although many scenes are shown with all of the windows rolled down. Shows covered the cold war, espionage, drugs, organized crime as well as counterfeiting, bank robberies, protection for visiting dignitaries and other local and state issues. McGarrent was a former Naval officer and is also contacted by the Navy for assistance. The photography is excellent and helped sell Hawaii as a good safe place to visit.
All twelve seasons have been released on DVD. James MacArthur was not in the final season. A cast change brought in William Smith, Sharon Farrell, and Moe Keale to play the parts of Kimo Carew, Lori Wilson, and Truck Kealoha.
